Matching your lipstick to your clothing: Do or Don’t?

Tags

,

I’ve been really in to bright lip colors lately (yes, a little late on that bandwagon, but at least I made it). I’ve also been very drawn to bright lipstick-hued clothing lately. This made me wonder: Should you match your lipstick to your clothes? Should you forget the bright lipstick when wearing bright colors? Or, if you do opt for lipstick, should it contrast the color you’re wearing? Or am I the only one overthinking it this much? (I realize it’s most likely that last one)

Here’s a few looks I’ve tried with both matching lips to clothes and contrasting.

So, what do you think? Matching or contrasting? Or should I stop worrying so much about this altogether? (again, probably that last one)

Trend I love: Lace

Tags

Arguable the most ladylike of trends, lace has really been growing on me. It’s one of those looks I used to consider only appropriate for dressy occasions. Lately, though, I’ve been seeing it around in a more casual way and I’m loving it. Here are a few lace pieces I’d love to own and how I’d style them.

What do you think of lace? How would/do you style lace?

Outfit Post: Tied Shirt

I tried the tied-shirt trend I saw last year, but I’m not sure I pulled it off. And while a tied button-down shirt still conjurs up images of Britney Spears a la “Baby One More Time”, I thought I’d give it a whirl. And ya know? I like it.

And in case you’re thinking my hair looks wet, it’s because it is. I just really hate doing my hair. So I put some wave enhancer in it, scrunch it and let it do its thing.

I also just got these platform sandals in the mail yesterday. I love the way they look, so hopefully they’re comfortable enough to keep me happy this summer.

What I want now: Floral pants trend

I’m absolutely dying for a pair of floral pants right now. The problem is most floral pants are just still too expensive. Like colored denim last year, they just aren’t as readily available in the lower price points yet. So until I find the right pair of floral pants in my price range, I’ll have fun imagining how I’d wear them…

Shopping in Salt Lake: Seasons Boutique

Tags

,

Living in the south end of the valley, I usually feel like I have to take a trip north to find a fun, local, unique boutique. So I was thrilled when I found Seasons Boutique right in my neighborhood.

What’s funny is I’ve been to this shopping area a lot. Five Guys is there, so, a LOT. But I had never really noticed Seasons Boutique until my little Google search brought me here. And I’m so glad it did. Like many of the other boutiques in the Salt Lake valley, this one was very well merchandised. But while many boutiques can be on the pricey side, all the prices in Seasons Boutique were very reasonable. It’s definitely someplace I could come spend some money without feeling the least bit guilty about it.

What really puts this local store over the top is the fact that they have a full-blown online store affiliated with the boutique, Panache. Sure, plenty of boutiques have a website with at least a few styles on them. But theirs is high quality and easy to navigate.

Needless to say, I’m really happy to have such a cute store nearby.

Outfit post: Pink, denim and green

Well, I finally did it. I wore my pink maxi skirt to work. And ya know what? It’s not so bad after all. This time I paired it with my very favorite piece in my closet, my chambray shirt. It’s one of those pieces I can’t believe I lived without. And, since it’s overcast with a chance of rain today, I added my anorak jacket. It’s another piece I absolutely love, but it’s a bit too small for me. As in, it won’t zip over my hips. So, I’m on the lookout for a new one. But for now, this will do.

I’ve definitely found that pairing the skirt with neutrals and basics really tones down the shock value and helps me be a little more comfortable wearing it.

And, because he’s cute and turns 1 this week, here’s a picture of my puppy. My 76-pound puppy.

An entire weekend passed…

And all I have to show for it is a blue door:

I’m still shocked at how long it took to paint the dang thing. Between sanding, priming and three coats of paint and painting the door frame, it took a total of about 6+ hours. Maybe closer to seven. Would have been longer if my mother-in-law hadn’t stopped by and helped with the last two coats on the door. But it is a fun addition to my house, so there’s that. (Also, please ignore the busted wicker furniture)

Trend I Love: Neon Accessories

I have to admit, I’m a bit surprised at how much I’m loving the neon trend. Bright colors have not always been in my comfort zone. My wardrobe tends towards the neutrals and jewel tones. But these neons are too fun to pass up. And while I can’t bring myself to drape myself in neon apparel (I simply do not have the skin tone for it) I find myself adding more and more bright, neon accessories to my life. It’s definitely an easier, more accessible way to add the fun neon colors and stay on trend without feeling like you’re wearing so much neon people can’t look directly at you.

Here’s a few of my picks:

What are your favorite neon picks? Are you embracing this trend, or passing?
